Muddled Road to Derby

(Hodges Photo)
There is no clear favorite for the running of the roses in about a month after a few chilling upsets over the past few weeks.  109-1 longshot Hero of Order won the Louisiana Derby (pictured above).  And he is not even nominated for the Derby.  It would cost $200,000 to do that and he would only get into the race if less than the 20 maximum nominated horses are entered.

Union Rags (pictured above) remains the odds on favorite at 3-1 even though he failed to win the Florida Derby.  Take Charge Indy pulled off that unexpected win.

It may be one of those years, again, where there is no clear "top horse" ready to take on the challenge of winning the Triple Crown.  But it's horse racing, there's still time for lots to happen!
